Wow! I have just awoken to a terrific snow blizzard which is messing with our spring and my mind, it’s terrorising the brave but few daffodils and snowdrops and blasting the newly formed buds which are starting to burst into song on our naked branches.

The ice cold winds are forcing them to hold their breath, probably wishing now that they had not emerged just yet from their deep winter slumber.

I have to say I wish I’d have done the same, as this 6.15 am, freezing and blustery morning is just not that appealing to the senses, especially as I feel a little cheated.
Haven’t we only just opened the shutters to spring?
Evidence I’m certain has been all around, with great splurges of brilliant yellow and purest white erupting from the freezing earth, from the brave little daffs and tiny nodding snowdrops.
Supposedly these small wonders are the first sign of spring, not so today as the snowdrops are quite possibly loosing their dainty little heads to this vicious blizzard, when they really should be nodding them as the gentle greeting of a spring breeze welcomes their annual arrival – bless!

Struggling to summon up the courage to venture outside just yet, I’m watching in warmth from behind closed doors at the occasional daring bird soaring past my window, being forced into flight from the ferocious blasts of winter air.
I’m amazed that they are even out there today, the odd one will battle the blasts to then be fired off at a severe tangent, as if on a roller coaster ride at Thorpe park.
I do wonder why they would even consider leaving their cozy nests on a day like today, possibly in search of food and shelter or maybe just for the sheer thrill.
I do hope the latter is true.

It was officially spring equinox yesterday, the 21st March and as I braved the storm to welcome her arrival I was greeted with huge gusts of spiralling wind,
And what was enjoying and engaging with these great gusts?
Snow flakes of all things !!!
Not fresh spring cherry blossom or the occasional flutter of a white downy feather from a hatchling, no just snow!!!!!
I do have to admit though that it looks so exciting and fun as the great fluffy flakes spill out of the deeply bruised sky.
It’s almost as if somebody from way above has violently shaken out a huge Hungarian feather duvet, and its innards have burst open and are cascading down all around.
The winds are blustering and carrying them along with so much vigour and force that they can find no place to rest, just spinning forever in the first dramatic scene of spring.
I find the energy and force of weather like this draws you into it’s drama, relieves and refreshes you from your own spiralling thoughts and plunges you into the very heart and excitement of it all.
If you allow yourself to become involved, let go and take part it can be so much fun, freezing but definitely fun!!!!

As I walk further into the chaos and look above, the snowflakes which were mimicking feathers have now been replaced by four and twenty blackbirds circling the chilly skies, they have given in and plunged into the persuasive and pursuing winds, and are dive bombing and spiralling all around me, mirroring the energy of today as it evokes a deep need in them to take part and play.
For a little while me and my dogs just stand and observe this great spectacle as gradually one by one they begin to calm and settle into the bare branches of a nearby tree.
What I find so lovely and sweet is that every single one of these busy birds sit reassuringly and comfortingly in pairs, it does remind me of a typical Saturday night out on the town, flying and spinning with such enthusiasm, then calming and settling with your best mate, very similar mating rituals I feel.
A definite sign that spring is in the air.

For one brief and breath taking moment the great blustery winds pause as the signature sound of a woodpecker echoes all around me, it’s spring song reminds me of the sound of a creaky door ever so gently opening, stuttering and groaning.
Allowing us to step into spring slowly and with a little uncertainty , but venturing through all the same to allow the growth to flow.

Until next time enjoy, and I wish you all a lovely Easter
