Grounding is probably a word you’ve heard being batted about quite a lot when you begin meditation.
But what is it?
Grounding creates an energy exchange, just like earthing excess electricity when wiring a plug.
We all need to devoid ourselves of negativity, super charged energy or thought forms in order to remain clear and connected.
We have a central cord of energy which lies completely in the centre of our bodies.
This golden cord of energy is made up of tiny tendrils of light which absorb energy.
This cord tethers us deeply into our souls and our Earth, it also connects us to the central universe.
All our major chakras feed into this cord which in turn fills all our layers in the auric field.
This keeps us safe, protected, healthy, and full of love and light.
Which is why, not only daily but constant grounding is so very important.
Daily tethering and connecting will enhance your life in so many ways but a few major ones are,
Drawing upon earth and universal energies to help others including yourself,
Connecting to your higher self
Draining away excess spent energy or other debris you have picked up along the way.
I must have heard the expression “grounding” for the first time over
20 years ago, when I was first discovering the power of crystals, but
that experience I have doesn’t give me a head start in the race to
become rooted, no if anything I find it can be a hindrance, for our
minds are tricky beasts and one wiff of a repeat then the brain is
instantly trying to find a short cut.
For example, for the last couple of days I have felt slightly unsettled,
knowing that change is happening within my business as a crystal
therapist and sensing that these changes are all for the best and
growth within myself and my work, but I had great awareness that I
was resisting this.
Even when I went to pick a crystal for my morning med, my eyes
locked upon the grounding ball of dark maroon agate and went to grab
my two brandberg amethysts.
Obviously thinking that I knew best and the latter choice would
hopefully bring more of a precision of thought to my journey through
the mind.
Which in actual fact is the complete opposite you wish for in a
meditation, release of the mind and its pesky thoughts, not more
control of them.
So with the amethysts in my hands I began my journey.
Deep breathing commenced, beginning to settle, more deep breathing,
followed by a bit of rummaging on my cushion, sprinkled with a dash
of itchiness everywhere now,
more twitching and loads of spiralling thoughts, exploding from my
mind
Why can’t I do this?
Umm I quite peckish now
Ooh my toes look like I could do with a pedicure
You get the picture
I was just about to give up and put it down as a bad job when I heard
the word very clearly,
Ground
It’s such a simple small word but oh so powerful if you act upon it and
not just think
about acting upon it.
For there’s a very real difference.
When I was trying to meditate this morning, my cocky little mind was already telling me that I was grounded , I didn’t need to do that anymore, I was far more experienced now, so I allowed my thoughts to win and tried to bypass this most important stage and get in with the incredible visualisation stuff, the exciting bit.
Which as you know didn’t work, sometimes you can trick yourself further and go on a journey, but I feel this is more illusionary, escapism.
You can’t expect a tree to bare fruit if the root system is poor.
So this meditation is a gentle reminder, mostly to me about how amazing true grounding can be, it plugs you in for the ride of your life, literally.
So any worries fears that you may have for your future or the past disintegrate,
Leaving you with trust and peace that it will all work out,
For it always does.
Becoming totally grounded is not a memory it’s a feeling deep within.
A connection like no other.
Some signs that you’re not grounded
Poor direction
Unbalanced
Accident prone
Constipated
Irritable
Feel unsafe
Unsettled
Fall over, dizziness
Attract drama and negativity

The crystals I would recommend for this meditation are
Hematite
This is a heavy metallic crystal, amazing at protection, and it’s deep heavy resonance mirrors the vibration of our root chakra, which is at the base of your spine, resulting in allowing it to open and deeply ground into the earth.
Rose Quartz
This crystal is such a wonderful companion for hematite, it showers you with unconditional love and care while your plunging into the earth.
If you don’t have any of these crystals, use a pebble instead.
Preferably from a beach, where the ocean has tumbled it into the perfect bauble for holding (we all seem to have a couple of those lying around the house or garden)
This meditation is great for beginners, right through to experienced light travellers.
Give it a go, I promise you’ll feel better for it.

Affirmation for the week ahead
“I am safe, I am grounded”
Meaning
Every time you sprinkle these words, out loud, or under cover,
You’re pouring energy and love into every atom of your being.
And your body will thank you for that.

Weekly prescription
Again, spend time outdoors as much as you can.
This is the last bank holiday now until winter, so get out and enjoy the day light
Even if it’s a tad chilly.
Surrounding yourself amongst nature is a great way to settle, and let go of the weeks
heaviness, grounding it deep into the earth.
Mini crystal treat
For those that can’t get out this weekend, or you still need that bit more help in grounding then this is for you.
Ingredients
Four pieces of hematite
One of rose quartz
One open mind
Method
Place one piece of hematite under each foot
One in your hand, and one on your lap whilst sitting.
Then hold the piece of rose quartz in the other hand.
Allow yourself to relax, settle and breathe calmly
Let these magnificent crystals do their work
Pulling you slowly back down into your body, and away from your worries and thoughts.
Feel your energy beginning to resonate with the crystals.
You can sit here now for as long or little as you wish.
Knowing that any time spent with yourself and with crystals is always good.
